The Bab (an Arabic word that means 'Gate') is the Prophet-Herald of Baha'u'llah (Glory of God). He declared His station of Prophethood on May 23, 1844 and immediately began foretelling of the imminent coming of the Promised One of All Ages and All Religions, Baha'u'llah. The Bab was martyred for this message and thereby fulfilled the Word of scripture. When we reflect on the events of His life and Mission, we are left to marvel at so many similarities to the life and Mission of John the Baptist as the Herald of Jesus the Christ.
These next two passages of scripture are just a few of many that tell of the relationship, mission, and life of the Bab and Baha'u'llah:
-- Ezekiel43:4 And the glory of the LORD (Baha'u'llah) came into the house by the way of the gate (Bab) whose prospect is toward the east.
-- Revelation 21:23 And the city (New Jerusalem) had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God (Baha'u'llah) did lighten it, and the Lamb (Holy Sacrifice, the Bab) is the light thereof.
